This study focuses on the Sisterhood of the diaconal institution of Kaiserswerth in the 19th century and inquires the motivation of the women that chose to enter this kind of profession. Furthermore, it asks for the everyday life and the organizational form of the life of the sisters.
The perspective of cultural science of this profession does not only present insight on the difference between claim and reality of the diaconal profession in the 19th century, but also gives a detailed look into the everyday life of the sisterhood between 1836-1914.
