Women with a Mission (Vol. 4)

Beate Eulenhöfer-Mann reconstructs in her study the mostly unexplored sources for piety and life of the first german female missionaries in China. In the 19th century there were sent out for the first time single female missionaries. Theological aspects of the debate on female mission´s work are highlighted as well as the construction and definition of the role of a female missionary. Furthermore, the piety of the missionaries, their perspective of their own role, the other culture and the other people are another focus of the research.
Eventually the gender construction of important mission-theologians (e.g. Gustav Warneck, Theodor Christlieb) are held in contrast to the lives of the female missionaries.
