Female Deaconship in the Kingdom of Saxony (Vol. 07)

Peggy Renger-Berka

The author researches the process of institutionalizing of the deaconess house in Dresden between the foundation in 1844 and 1881, when the first rector died. Her interest is seen especially in the research of making of regulations and orders as well as the establishment of leading structures. Furthermore, the symbols used in space and time of the deaconship are analyzed as well as the socialization of the sisterhood. By doing this the spiritual roots of this social and caritative institution in Dresden are discovered that were so heavily influenced by the founders. In the same time the mechanisms are asked for which formed the sisterhood as an institutional community that lived, served and shared the same faith together in the 19th century.
