The new “Framework Regulations for the First Theological Examination/the Examination for the Magister Theologiae in Protestant Theology” of October 9, 2010 designates “Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology” as an oral examination subject in the exam. Information can be found here (in German).
However, the regional churches are free to require this examination as an “admission requirement” instead of in the examination. Some regional churches have made use of this option.
The oral examination in “Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology” required as a result is conducted by the theological faculties on their own responsibility. The binding basis for this is the guideline of the Protestant Theological Faculty Association. You can find them here (in German).
The examination is conducted during the main phase of studies as part of the advanced module "Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology." A prerequisite for the examination is the successful completion of all required courses within the module.
The subject of the examination is a focus topic that must be personally agreed upon with the examiner. Examiners include PD Dr. Hendrik Stoppel, Dr. Claudia Rammelt, and other appointed lecturers of the department. Students are asked to attend office hours well in advance to discuss their topic.
The scope of the focus topic roughly corresponds to the content of an overview lecture or a main seminar. For example, the content of a two-hour lecture can be combined with approximately three texts from the main seminar, which is also part of the advanced module, or with other freely chosen texts. Alternatively, the entire main seminar can serve as the basis. Freely chosen topics are also possible.
A thesis paper of one to two pages must be submitted to the examiner at least two days before the examination.
The examination usually takes place during the last week of lectures, at the earliest in the semester in which the final course for the advanced module "Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology" is attended.
Registration for the examination must be completed by email to Ms. Catrin Küppers (interkulturelle-theologie@rub.de) no later than four weeks before the end of the semester. Please use the corresponding registration form for this purpose.
For any questions, please contact Catrin Küppers (interkulturelle-theologie@rub.de).
