The Ruhr University Bochum, with its 21 Departments organised in 5 Faculties (Arts, Social Studies, Engineering, Sciences, Medicine), is centrally located in the dynamic and welcoming metropolitan Ruhr District at the heart of Europe. It is home to more than 41,000 students from 130 countries and employs a staff of 5,500. The Ruhr University is well on its way to becoming one of the top higher education institutions of the 21st century in Europe. All the major academic disciplines are pooled in a single compact campus, and our Research School is an international college for structured doctoral research in the life sciences, natural sciences and engineering studies, humanities and social sciences. The University has an excellent infrastructure for the advancement of young, up-and-coming academics.

The Department of Protestant Theology, far from being a mass phenomenon, is a place where it is easy to get to know the teaching staff and to take an active part in discussions in seminars and lectures. At present, some 850 students are matriculated in the Department, approximately 400 of them pursuing Bachelor studies, 150 doing Master’s degrees, and 300 aiming for a final qualification as protestant church pastors.
